Geometric Pygmy Hawkfish (Plectranthias inermis) — Overview A tiny, patterned perchlet often mislabeled as a hawkfish, the Geometric Pygmy Hawkfish is a deep‑water Indo‑Pacific species prized for its mosaic red‑orange patterning, shy demeanor, and perch‑and‑watch behavior. Though sold as a hawkfish, it is taxonomically an anthiine perchlet, not a true hawkfish. 🐟 Identity & Appearance Scientific name: Plectranthias inermis Common names: Geometric Pygmy Hawkfish, Geometric Perchlet, Hi‑Fin Perchlet, Geometric Basslet Family: Serranidae (Anthias subfamily) Size: Typically 1.5–2 inches, occasionally up to 2–2.5 inches in aquaria.
