WYSIWYG Coral Indophyllia corals are large‑polyp, fleshy LPS showpieces known for their dramatic colors, thick tissue, and solitary “meat coral” form — prized by collectors for their rarity and sculptural appearance. They resemble Acanthophyllia and Cynarina but have their own distinct structure and patterning. What Indophyllia Is Indophyllia (Indophyllia macassarensis) is a single‑polyp, fleshy LPS coral closely related to Scolymia, Cynarina, and Acanthophyllia. It is known for: • Thick, inflated tissue • Round to slightly lobed shape • Deep grooves and radiating streaks • Intense multicolor patterns (reds, greens, oranges, purples, blues) Collectors value Indophyllia because it has the premium look of a high‑end “meat coral” but with more structural definition and unique patterning. Appearance Indophyllia often displays: • Vibrant, high‑contrast coloration • Glowing centers with radiating lines • A more structured feel beneath the tissue compared to Cynarina • Distinctive spotting or streaking patterns that help differentiate it from similar species Under reef lighting, they can show rainbow combinations, lime centers, or deep metallic tones. Lighting & Flow Indophyllia prefers low to moderate lighting — too much light can cause bleaching or tissue recession. Flow should be gentle to moderate, enough to keep the coral clean but not strong enough to damage its delicate tissue. Placement Best placement is: • On the sand bed or a smooth, stable surface • Away from sharp rock edges • In low‑flow zones where the coral can fully expand This prevents tissue abrasion and allows the coral to inflate naturally. Water Parameters Indophyllia thrives in stable, mature systems with: • Temperature: 76–80°F • Salinity: ~1.025 • Alkalinity: 8–9 dKH • Calcium: 400–450 ppm • Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm They are sensitive to sudden parameter swings, especially alkalinity changes. Feeding While photosynthetic, Indophyllia benefits greatly from occasional meaty feedings, which improve growth and coloration: • Mysis shrimp • Finely chopped seafood • Coral‑specific frozen foods Target feeding 1–2× per week is ideal. Behavior & Hardiness Indophyllia is generally peaceful, though it may extend short sweepers at night. It is hardy when given stable conditions but can retract tightly if stressed — often due to flow, lighting, or alkalinity fluctuations. Why Reefers Love It • Premium showpiece coral with dramatic presence • Insane color potential under blues • Thick, sculptural tissue unlike most LPS • Rare and highly collectible • Ideal for low‑light zones where many corals struggle
