2"-3" Frag - Stock Photo your frag will not appear exactly as the image. From the Seahorse Aquarium Supply Farm. The Jason Fox Limelight Hydnophora is a neon‑green, fast‑growing, highly aggressive SPS coral known for its glowing fluorescence and signature spiky “hydnophores,” making it a dramatic showpiece that demands space and stable conditions. Identity & Appearance The Limelight Hydnophora is a Hydnophora species — sometimes called Horn Coral — prized for its intense lime‑green fluorescence and unique skeletal texture. It displays: • Neon lime to bright green coloration, extremely fluorescent under blue lighting • Knobby, spiked ridges formed by fused corallites (“hydnophores”) • Growth forms that may be branching, plating, or encrusting depending on placement and flow This makes it visually distinct from smoother SPS like Acropora or Montipora. Behavior & Aggression Hydnophora is one of the most aggressive SPS corals. • It extends long, powerful sweeper tentacles, especially at night, capable of killing nearby corals. • It requires generous spacing from neighbors due to both chemical and physical warfare. This aggression is a defining trait and must be considered in aquascaping. Lighting & Flow The Limelight Hydnophora thrives under: • Moderate to high PAR (150–300) for best coloration and growth • Moderate to strong flow, which helps maintain polyp extension and prevents detritus buildup Higher light intensifies its neon glow, making it a standout in SPS or mixed reefs. Placement Best placed on: • Mid to upper rockwork for optimal light exposure • Isolated sections of the aquascape to avoid stinging neighbors Because it grows quickly, it can become a focal coral when given room. Diet & Feeding While primarily photosynthetic, it benefits from supplemental feeding: • Fine particulate coral foods • Rotifers • Reef roids or similar micro‑foods • Feeding 1–2× weekly enhances growth and coloration Hardiness & Care Level The Limelight Hydnophora is considered moderately difficult: • Hardier than many SPS, but still sensitive to unstable parameters • Prefers stable alkalinity (8–9.5 dKH), calcium (420–450 ppm), and magnesium (1250–1350 ppm) • Grows fast for an SPS, making it rewarding once established It adapts well to mature systems with consistent nutrient levels and strong lighting. Why It’s Popular Reef keepers love the Jason Fox Limelight Hydnophora because it offers: • Insane neon coloration that glows even in mixed lighting • Unique spiky texture unlike most SPS • Fast growth once settled • High visual impact as a centerpiece coral Its combination of beauty and aggression makes it a coral that demands respect — but rewards the aquarist with unmatched fluorescence.
