Rainbow Frankenstein Bounce Mushroom - WYSIWYG The Rainbow Frankenstein Bounce Mushroom is a high‑end, collector‑level Rhodactis mushroom coral famous for its massive bubble‑like vesicles (“bounce”), extreme multicolor palette, and thick, fleshy texture. It’s one of the most visually dramatic mushrooms in the hobby and a centerpiece coral in any display or frag tank. Identity & Appearance This morph is part of the “bounce mushroom” family — Rhodactis mushrooms that develop oversized vesicles due to lighting, flow, and genetics. Rainbow Frankenstein stands out because of its wild, multicolor, high‑contrast look. Typical features include: • Large, inflated vesicles in orange, yellow, green, and sometimes red • Deep, textured base with purple, blue, or metallic undertones • Thick, fleshy oral disc that expands dramatically • Chaotic, uneven bubble pattern — no two frags look the same • High fluorescence under blue LEDs When fully inflated, it looks like a living, multicolored lava field. Growth & Behavior Rainbow Frankenstein Bounce Mushrooms are slow to moderate growers, especially compared to common Rhodactis. Once settled, they: • Expand into large, fleshy discs • Develop more pronounced vesicles over time • Spread slowly across rock or rubble • Can detach and “walk” if unhappy They’re hardy but can be sensitive during acclimation. Lighting & Flow Bounce mushrooms develop their best color and vesicle inflation under moderate light and low flow. Lighting: • PAR 80–150 is ideal • Too much light can cause shrinking or bleaching • Too little light can reduce bounce size and color intensity Flow: • Low, indirect flow • Enough movement to keep debris off the surface • Avoid direct blasts that can cause detachment Placement Best placement is: • Lower rockwork or sand bed • Shaded or partially shaded zones • Areas with gentle flow and stable footing They prefer smooth surfaces and will inflate more fully when comfortable. Feeding While photosynthetic, bounce mushrooms respond very well to feeding. Occasional target feeding helps with growth and vesicle development. They accept: • Mysis • Reef plankton • Small meaty foods • Fine coral blends Feed 1–2× weekly for best results. Hardiness & Care Rainbow Frankenstein Bounces are hardy once established, but they appreciate: • Stable alkalinity • Moderate nutrients (not ULNS) • Gentle acclimation to new lighting • Clean, low‑flow environments They can retract tightly if stressed but usually recover with stable conditions. Why Reefers Love It • Insane multicolor fluorescence • Huge, dramatic bounce vesicles • Unique, sculptural appearance • High collector value • A true showpiece mushroom
