5-10 Polyps - Stock Photo your frag will not appear exactly as the image. From the Seahorse Aquarium Supply Farm. The Rainbow Hornet Zoanthid is a high‑contrast, collector‑favorite zoa morph known for its fiery outer ring, glowing yellow center, and deep blue skirt — a true “target‑pattern” polyp that pops under reef lighting. It’s hardy, fast‑growing, and one of the most recognizable hornet‑style zoas in the hobby. Identity & Appearance Rainbow Hornets follow the classic “hornet” pattern but with a multicolor twist that makes them stand out instantly. Typical coloration includes: • Bright yellow to neon green mouth • Orange inner ring • Red to magenta mid‑ring • Deep blue or purple outer ring • Blue/purple skirt with alternating lashes Under blues, the rings glow like a bullseye — the signature hornet look. Growth & Behavior Rainbow Hornets are considered moderate growers, faster than high‑end collector zoas but not as fast as common varieties. Once settled, they: • Form tight clusters • Spread steadily across plugs and rock • Maintain strong coloration even in lower light They’re hardy and forgiving, making them suitable for both beginners and collectors. Lighting & Placement These zoas color best under moderate PAR with a blue‑heavy spectrum. Ideal conditions: • PAR 80–150 • Low to moderate flow • Mid‑level placement on rockwork or frag racks Too much light can wash out the rings; too little can mute the yellow center. Feeding While not required, Rainbow Hornets respond well to occasional feeding: • Reef roids • Fine zooplankton • Coral‑specific micro foods Feeding boosts growth and helps maintain vibrant coloration. Hardiness & Compatibility Rainbow Hornets are: • Fully reef‑safe • Peaceful • Resistant to swings compared to more delicate zoas They do, however, appreciate stable parameters and clean water to avoid melting or pest issues. Why Reefers Love Them • Iconic hornet pattern • High‑contrast rings that glow under blues • Hardy and adaptable • Great for both collectors and display tanks • Photogenic — perfect for frag racks and shop displays
