Two Little Fishies PhosBan‑L is a concentrated lanthanum‑chloride liquid phosphate binder designed for rapid reduction of high dissolved phosphate levels in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. It is intended for corrective phosphate removal when levels are elevated, and is more economical than granular GFO for large, fast drops. 🧠 What PhosBan‑L Is Type: Liquid lanthanum‑chloride phosphate remover (33% solution). Purpose: Quickly binds dissolved phosphate and forms an insoluble precipitate that can be mechanically filtered out. Use case: Ideal when phosphate is above 0.2 mg/L, especially in systems with heavy feeding or high fish load. 🔍 Key Features Extremely high binding capacity — removes large quantities of phosphate quickly. More economical than granular media for large corrections. Safe for freshwater, saltwater, and ponds. Supports coral growth by helping maintain low phosphate levels in reef aquariums. ⚙️ How It Works Lanthanum chloride reacts with dissolved phosphate, forming a fine precipitate. This precipitate must be captured mechanically (filter sock, cartridge filter, skimmer, etc.). Water may temporarily cloud during dosing due to the precipitate. 🧪 Dosing & Directions Dilution: Mix 100 mL PhosBan‑L with 200 mL RO/DI water before dosing. Effectiveness: 5 mL of diluted solution treats 20 gallons, removing up to 1 ppm phosphate. Application: Dose drop‑wise over hours or days. Always dose into a filter sock (preferably 5‑micron) to trap precipitate. Daily limit: Do not exceed the 5 mL per 20 gallons per day dosage, even if phosphate is very high. 📉 When to Use Use when phosphate is >0.2 mg/L and reduce slowly to ~0.1 mg/L over several days. Below 0.1 mg/L, lanthanum becomes less effective and may leave residual lanthanum in the water. At this point, switch to PhosBan GFO to maintain levels <0.03 ppm. ⚠️ Important Considerations Alkalinity drops can occur when using lanthanum chloride or GFO — monitor and supplement as needed. Acrylic tanks: Heavy dosing that clouds the water can cause precipitate to adhere to acrylic surfaces. Safety: Avoid contact with skin/eyes; do not ingest; keep away from children. 📌 Quick Summary: Type: Liquid lanthanum‑chloride phosphate remover Best for: Rapid correction of high PO₄ (>0.2 mg/L) Dosing: Dilute 1:2; dose drop‑wise into filter sock Capacity: 5 mL diluted treats 20 gal, removes up to 1 ppm Follow‑up: Switch to GFO below 0.1 mg/L Watch for: Cloudiness, alkalinity drop, acrylic precipitation
